Welcome to Mississauga where lawns are clipped, neighbors are watchful and no blade of grass dares misbehave. Except at Wolf Ruck’s place. His lawn grows wild, and so does the trouble.

WOLF represents for me a precious opportunity to explore themes that lie very close to my heart, through the richness of the documentary medium. It is a deep dive into the intimate and universal struggle of a man confronted with the absurdity of social conformism. From the moment I discovered his story, I was struck by its cinematic and poetic resonance. His solitary fight to let his lawn grow freely immediately evoked a Kafkaesque narrative for me, infused with irony and quiet resistance.
Marginal trajectories have always fascinated me. Understanding the motivations of those who dare to challenge social norms is a pursuit that has shaped my perspective as a filmmaker since the very beginning of my practice. Wolf, through his peaceful disobedience, embodies a form of resistance that is gentle yet powerful. His gesture, seemingly trivial, is a declaration of war against a standardized vision of the world, where the illusion of control and order prevails over our ecological responsibility.
Through Wolf’s story, a much broader issue emerges: the difficulty of transforming our habits in the face of the climate crisis. Wolf, nearly eighty years old, belongs to a generation that witnessed the world’s shift into the era of overconsumption. Rather than giving in to convenience, he finds the strength to question this legacy and chooses to fight—not for himself, but for those who will come after him. His courage moves me deeply, and I wish, in my own way, to pay tribute to him. It is rare to see characters of this age take center stage on screen, and yet they have so much to pass on.
The parallel between Wolf’s environmental struggle and his past as an athlete resonates with me particularly strongly, as it embodies the fighting spirit I have always sought to cultivate in my own career as a filmmaker. Through his struggle, I rediscover this notion of resilience, this unshakeable refusal to give up until the goal is reached. It is this spirit of perseverance that inspires me and drives me to tell a story that resonates with the world we live in today.
