Director's statement
On the foreground, EXTRAS is a wacky, absurd comedy in which two colourful female characters I love confide in each other about the deep, real-life dramas inside them. In the background (and with no subtlety), this film is the result of my deliberate ambition to push the boundaries of the medium, to have fun - both with the direction and with the audience - and to take a critical look at what I now see as the evils of our age: self-centredness and lack of empathy.A satirical observation on the film industry and our era in which quantity is sometimes valued over quality, EXTRAS humorously deconstructs the inordinate facets of ego and narcissism that sometimes blind us. Ultimately, and in a gesture of total self-mockery, I want to give the floor to those we don't usually take the time to listen to. It's an opportunity for extras to finally have the revolution they deserve!For me, EXTRAS is a love letter to the seventh art form that aims to surprise viewers, to take them on an experience that goes beyond convention, where familiarity gives way to the unexpected. Marc-Antoine Lemire
Marc-Antoine Lemire is a queer filmmaker who values freedom and risk-taking. His short film PRE-DRINK (2017) has won over a hundred festivals and awards in its career. In 2023, Marc-Antoine released MISTRAL SPATIAL, his first self-produced feature, before reconnecting with his passion for short films with EXTRAS (2024) and MOLOSSE (postprod). He is currently writing his second feature film.
