An archaeologist digs steady, precise. Behind her, a crowd gathers, laughing, watching, passing judgment like distant echoes. But she keeps going, deeper. Beyond the noise. Beyond their gaze. She’s no longer just unearthing the past, she’s searching for answers buried in her own present.

Ten minutes and twenty seconds in the life of an archaeologist. I wanted to stage a seemingly ordinary moment: an archaeologist at work in a public space, under the gaze of passersby. A silent researcher, steadfast in her movements, while her detractors never cease to judge her aloud from behind. How do their taunts shape the way she works, the rhythm of her gestures? How does a self-proclaimed public tribunal take form—and how does it destroy with words? Ultimately, I wanted to ask: after an onslaught of noise, what is silence worth, if not all the gold in the world?
The structure of Nos Panthéons had to be radical to raise these questions—and attempt to answer them. To create a space where the background is loud and destructive, while the foreground remains silent and creative. Where reality blurs as archetypes clash, making the brutality of our world stand out all the more starkly. Time stretches. We stay with our heroine, whose very profession is devoted to history and the foundations of civilizations. The irony of her fate. It was essential that we never hear her voice—so we can listen instead to the sound of her gestures, of her labor, the one closest to the earth and its secrets. To breathe with her. To pass through time as she does.
The microcosm I depict is one of collision: a heroine searching for traces of a vanished civilization against a world eager to dismiss them. Her work as an archaeologist is an act of preservation, a contribution to the vast expanse of human knowledge—yet it is brushed aside with a wave of insults from those who seek neither to understand nor to learn. Two worlds stand in opposition: the curious who ask questions, and the scandalized who claim to have all the answers.
Who is truly trapped behind the fences of the excavation site—the woman digging, or the onlookers watching from the sidewalk?
