Xavier comes home early in the morning to find his girlfriend Léa in bed. This was the first time he spent the night elsewhere since they decided to open up their relationship. While the idea was to strengthen their bond, it might actually have been their biggest mistake…

UNTIL YOU DIE tells the story of the end of a love affair. Although they still love each other deeply, Xavier and Léa have never known another relationship in their lives. Haunted by the idea of perhaps one day regretting it, Léa convinced Xavier to try an open relationship. But what was meant to solidify their couple turns out to weaken it. Léa and Xavier are forced to admit that they may no longer want the same thing. Hence, at its core, this film is a simple story of a break-up, a one-location film with two (or three) characters. But it's precisely because it's such a simple story that I wanted to explore a slightly more complex form. Inspired by Marguerite Duras and Abbas Kiarostami, II try to reinterpret the flashback, so that it doesn't interrupt the narrative, but rather makes it slide, like a stream of consciousness. In this way, we switch from day to night without a clean cut, to recreate the same fluidity as we shift in our minds from one memory to another. I use this same process for the very end of the film. As the film presents what turns out to be the couple's final moments, we slip into the memory of their first moment together. In this way, we complete the end of this love story with its beginning. The full circle, as they say... This ending is not simply a nostalgic gesture, but also evokes a feeling specific to the break-up. After all, isn't the first reflex we have after breaking up, to think back on the good times we've already had?
